HAMPTON, VA. - Freshman Coire Barnitz threw a five-hitter and
sophomore Kenny Eanes drove in a pair of runs with a double as the
Apprentice School advanced to the 2008 USCAA Championship game with
a 6-2 win over Robert Morris-Springfield on Thursday.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the first with two runs both
scoring on throwing errors by the Builders. Apprentice School
answered with a run in the bottom of the first as Alan Riley had a
one-out single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
The Builders followed with three runs in the second as Eanes
laced a one-out double to center scoring Bryce Beale and Eric Polk
to put the Builders ahead 3-2. He scored on a single by Alan
Riley two batters later.
Apprentice School added a pair more in the third as Dory Fields
started with a single and advanced to second on a throwing
error. He scored as Kyle Center smashed a double to
left-center for a 5-2 advantage. After advancing to third on
a wild pitch, Center scored on a Beale single to right-center for a
6-2 Apprentice lead.
Barnitz, after giving up two hits and the two runs in the first,
settled down allowing three hits the rest of the game. He
struck out three and walked two in the win.
Five Robert Morris-Springfield players had a hit apiece, while
Riley and Center were 2-for-3 each for the Builders.
