SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE - Sophomore Eric Joe scored 16 of
his career high 25 points in the second half as the Apprentice
School held off a late rally from Southern Maine Community College
for an 83-80 United States Collegiate Athletic Association victory
on Thursday night.
The first half saw the Builders hold a 47-44 advantage as they
shot 43% from the floor (19-of-44) and saw the host Seawolves
(10-1) hit 50% from the floor (13-of-26) and 88% from the foul line
(15-of-17).
In the second half the Builders (3-3) took a lead late on a
stick back from Joe - who scored his 25 points coming off the bench
- and sealed the victory with a pair of Jason Arrington free throws
with six seconds left. Southern Maine had a last-second shot
fall short.
Arrington added 22 points, seven rebounds and five steals for
the Builders. The 22 points was his third 22-point game in
six games this season. Junior Eric Ruffin added 15 points,
nine rebounds, four assists and four steals for Apprentice School.
The Builders now travel to Auburn, Maine for a Friday night
USCAA match up with Central Maine Community College at 7 pm.
