MIAMI, FLA. -- The Apprentice School closed the first half on a
19-8 run and held off a couple Wentworth Institute of Technology
runs in the second half for a 73-67 victory on Tuesday in the first
game of the Cruizin Classic at Barry University.
The Leopards, from Boston, Mass., trailed 11-10 early in the
game before going on an 11-4 run over the next 3:48 to take their
largest lead of the game on a 3-pointer from Sherrad Prezzie-Blue
for a 21-15 advantage. Apprentice School (8-6) closed the
half on a 19-8 run with Jason Arrington starting it with a pair of
3-pointers.
In the second half, the Builders blew the game open with a 9-0
run over a 3:08 span with Fred Spratley scoring the last four
points to take a 43-33 advantage with 16 minutes left.
Wentworth cut the lead down to four points with an 8-1 spurt for a
51-47 with 8:57 left on a Todd Doyle layup. The lead was
never lower than five points from that point on.
Junior Eric Ruffin was the leading scorer for the Builders with
15 points, while Spratley added 12 and Arrington scored 11.
Doyle and Blue were the leaders for Wentworth (4-4) with 16 points
apiece.
