Joey Maben, 2017 USCAA Golf Coach of the Year
State College, PA- The 2017 USCAA Golf Coach of the Year went to Joey Maben of The Apprentice School. Maben, who has coached the Builders golf team for nearly a decade, improved upon his team's national championship finish from last year, placing fifth out of 19 teams this year. The Apprentice School finished just 13 strokes behind SUNY Delhi.
A former Apprentice School golf team member, Maben is in his ninth year as the head coach of the Builders.
Maben, who graduated from The Apprentice School in 1982 as a pipefitter apprentice, played for legendary coach Glenn Heath from 1978-82. He was a member of the Kecoughtan High School golf team in 1975-76 before being hired into the pipe department of the shipyard in November of 1976. Maben was a gold athletic award winner as an apprentice.
