Builders Open Season With Pair Of Dual Victories

MORRISVILLE, NY - The Apprentice School wrestling team opened their 2008-09 season with a pair of dual match victories at the Morrisville State College Duals on Saturday.

In their first match the Builders faced the hosts Morrisville State Mustangs and came out with a 23-22 victory.  The Builders started first as freshman Marcus Chevres recorded a 15-7 major decision at 125 pounds.  After falling at 133 and 141 pounds, the Builders scored victories at 149 by Matt Perry (14-3 major decision), 157 by Ricky Anderson (fall in 1:45) and 165 by Will Harcum (fall in 1:07) to take a 20-9 advantage.  The Mustangs answered with three straight victories to take a 22-20 lead heading into the heavyweight match.  Senior Cecil Lee scored a 4-2 overtime victory at heavyweight to give the Builders the 23-22 win.

The next match saw the Builders face the University of Scranton and they recorded a 28-18 win.  Apprentice School (2-0) never trailed in the match as they recorded falls from Chevres and Anderson in the first four weight classes to take a 15-6 advantage and never looked back.

"It was a great start to the season," said Apprentice School Head Coach Bruce Shumaker.  "17 guys wrestled today with a lot of freshmen in the lineup and everyone gave a good effort."

Next up for the Builders will be the Washington & Lee Invitational on November 8 in Lexington.
