Builders Walk Off Blues Twice

IN BRIEF: The Builders played a back and forth game with Bluefield State but walked off the Blues in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 9th inning. The win extends the Builders win streak to 12 games and improves their record to 22-7.

Austin Stambaugh and Paul Jones found themselves in a pitchers dual as the Builders led 2 to 0 after 4 innings. The Builders scored first in the bottom of the 1st when back to back hits from Maxwell Burcham and Cody Hendrickson gave the Builders the lead. In the 4th Cody Hendrickson scored on an error and the Builders held a 2 to 0 lead. The lead would quickly evaporate in the 5th when the Blues would score 3 runs to take control of the game.

With their backs against the wall in the bottom of the 7th, James Williams hit a sacrifice fly and Brent Byrum scored to tie the game and send it to extra innings. The Blues took a 4 to 3 lead in the 8th and the Builders were up against the wall again. In the bottom of the 8th it was a sacrifice fly from Thomas Packert that would tie the game and send it to the 9th. Tyler Winegrad threw a perfect 9th inning and the Builders walked off the Blues in the bottom of the 9th. Gevin Nixon's single down the left field line scored Braden Lambert and the Builders won the game by a score of 5 to 4.

Paul Jones took the mound for the Builders and turned in 6 innings pitched, gave up 3 runs (2 earned), and struck out 6. The quality start wasn't enough for Jones to get the win, but Jones put the Builders in a position to win the game. Tyler Winegrad took over in the 7th and pitched three innings, as this game went to extras. Winegrad picked up the win in relief.

IN BRIEF: Once again the Builders played comeback to walk-off the Blues by a score of 3 to 2. Trailing 2 to 0 in the bottom of the 7th, the Builders clawed their way back into the game and a double from Brent Byrum drove in the winning run.

Down 2 to 0 in the bottom of the 7th, the Builders were once again up against the wall. James Williams would get things started with a leadoff double to right field and would advance to third on the Lou Picolo ground out. Gevin Nixon's single up the middle would score Williams and cut the lead in half as the Builders trailed 2 to 1 with one out in the 7th. Back to back singles from Maxwell Burcham and Cody Hendrickson would load the bases and make way for Brent Byrum to be the hero. On a 2-0 pitch. Byrum laced a ball into the right center gap and the Builders would score 2 easily to win the game 3 to 2. A solid team win.

Clay O'Brien picked up the win in relief and improved to 3-0 on the season. With the doubleheader sweep, the Builders are now 23-7 and have won an astonishing 13 games in a row. For highlights of the two walk-offs, check the @GoBuilderSports twitter page.
