IN BRIEF: After taking an early 3 to 0 lead, the Builders would surrender that lead in the 2nd Quarter but never looked back as they went on their way to a 1-0 start to the 2019 season. The Builders took down the Pride of Greensboro College by a score of 23 to 8. Mason Tatum led the Builders on offense completing 20 passes on 36 attempts for 358 yards and two touchdowns.
The Builders scored on the opening drive of the game on a Jeremiah Morgan 28 yard Field Goal. The drive was highlighted by a 24 yard pass from Mason Tatum to Qumari Campbell that set the Builders up at the Greensboro 14. The Pride defense would bend but not break, holding the Builders to just 3 points. The Pride would then take the lead on a 76 yard touchdown pass from Loughry. The Pride would do the unusual thing and go for the two point conversion. After suceeding on the conversion, the Pride would take an 8 to 3 lead with 12:29 left until half time.
The Pride and the Builders would trade a couple of punts before the Builders opened up the floodgates to end the 1st half. With 1:43 left until halftime Mason Tatum found Cruyff Fleurine wide open for a 72 yard touchdown. The PAT was good and the Builders found themselves with a 10-8 lead. Kareem Wilson would quickly give the ball back to the Builders offense when he picked off the pass from Loughry. Tatum connected with Kwaytavious Blackwell for a 44 yard touchdown and the Builders took a 16 to 8 lead at Halftime.
After giving up the early lead, the Builders found their stride on defense and shut out the Pride for the remainder of the game. The Builders held the Pride to under 100 rushing yards and provided the spark to earn the win. Theo Wheeler added to the lead in the 3rd on a 13 yard touchdown run to stretch the lead to 23 to 8. The Builders would hold on to defeat the Pride by a final score of 23 to 8, starting off the season with a 1-0 record.
