Builders Pull Away From Mustangs For 85-66 Win

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – Senior Tevin Andrews scored 21 points to lead three Builders in double figures on Tuesday night as the Apprentice School used a 7-0 run in the final three minutes of the first half to pull away and take an 85-66 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University.

A first half that had four ties and six lead changes saw the Builders use an 8-0 spurt midway in the first half to take a 25-17 lead on a Lance Darden layup with 8:01 left.  The Mustangs shot themselves back into the game forcing the final tie of the night at 32-all on a Michael Anderson jumper with 5:17 left.  After a free throw from Angus Spencer brought the home team to within 36-33 with 3:19 left, the Builders closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 43-33 lead at half on a Latrone Demiel jumper.

In the second half, the Mustangs cut the deficit to seven points twice with a 3-point play from Anderson bringing them to 58-51 with 11:03 left.  The Builders responded with an 11-2 run over the next 4:35 to lead 69-53 on a Lavontae Thomas layup with 6:28 left.

Andrews recorded his eighth double-double of the season with his 21-point, 14-rebound outing.  Thomas added 15 points and six assists, while Darrell Fenton had 10 points and six rebounds.  Apprentice School (14-7) hit 35-of-75 from the field (46.7%) and out-rebounded the Mustangs 52-40.  MACU (9-11) was paced by Anderson with a game-high 24 , Questen Ragin added 16 and Niles Forsythe chipped in with 14 points.

The Builders return home on Saturday afternoon for a key U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup with the Knights of Southern Virginia University.  These teams faced off last Saturday in Buena Vista with the Knights pulling out a 96-87 overtime win.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2pm Saturday at Apprentice Gym.
