NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School men's basketball team left no doubt Tuesday night as they ran away from Virginia Peninsula Community College in an 84-51 win.
The Builders jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes. After trading a few baskets to make it 15-6 at the 14:11 mark of the first half, Apprentice went on a 18-0 run over the next 5:10 to put the game away. AS led by as many as 31 and never let the lead go below 20 the rest of the game.
Avin Hawkins led all scorers with 20 points off the bench.
Karree Smith had 16, while
Adrion Wall put up 11. In total, the Builders shot nearly 53 percent from the floor, including hitting 9-of-18 three-pointers.
Apprentice's next game will be in exhibition action at Longwood on November 30.
