Women's Basketball Falls in Exhibition at UNC Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. - After a slow start out of the gates, the Apprentice School women's basketball team fought hard and held their own against UNC Wilmington Tuesday night in a 78-42 exhibition matchup.

The Seahawks jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first period, but the Builders found their footing in the middle two quarters, hanging with UNCW over that time span. Apprentice nearly won the third period before UNCW scored the final seven points of the quarter.

The Builders outrebounded the Seahawks on the offensive glass, 19-11, despite the UNCW lineup being six or more inches taller across the board most of the night. Apprentice also had more second chance points as a result, winning that statistical category, 15-6.

Kerrigan Small led Apprentice with 12 points, including making the only two three pointers of the game for the visitors. Jada Bryant finished one point shy of a double-double, tallying nine points and 10 boards.

Apprentice will officially kick off the 2023 season with a 2 p.m. matchup Sunday at Central Carolina.
