NEWPORT NEWS - In the final game of 2023 for the team, the Apprentice School men's basketball team reeled off a 83-69 win over Cheyney Saturday afternoon.
The game was back-and-forth throughout the first half until the Builders rattled off the final six points of the half to take a 39-31 lead to intermission. From there, Apprentice stretched their lead out to as many as 22 in the second half on two occasions before holding off a Wolves run to keep the game at a comfortable margin throughout.
Karree Smith led all scorers with 25 points on a near perfect night from the floor of 11-for-13 shooting.
Xavien Hunter added 14 from the bench, while
Avin Hawkins put up 11.
Adrion Wall had 10.
The Builders are now off until January 6 when they open NSAC play against Blue Lights at home.
