NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School football team got back in the win column Saturday with a 52-17 win over Georgia Warhawks to cap off Hall of Fame Weekend.
Quinton Wallace got the nod at quarterback Saturday and got right to work, getting the Builders on the board on the opening drive on a 1-yard run to take the early lead. After a
Stacy Adams interception set the Builders up with a short field, Wallace found
Tim Blair in the back of the endzone for a 6-yard touchdown that doubled the Apprentice lead.
The Builder defense forced a Warhawk three-and-out on the next drive, giving
Jasiah Beacham a chance to return a punt deep into Warhawk territory and set up
Kamron Jackson for a rushing touchdown from 17 yards out. Jackson scored again to start the second quarter from seven yards out to take a 28-0 lead before Wallace hooked up with Blair again fot 52 yards and a 35-0 lead.
The Warhawks answered on the ensuing drive, finding the endzone, but the Builders had just enough time before the break to get
Jeremiah Morgan a 39-yard field goal to take a 38-7 lead at the half.
In the second half, Wallace linked up with
Makegan Piorkowski for a 20-yard passing score, and
Amari Thomas rushed in from 10 yards out to wrap up the scoring for the Builders.
Wallace was 7-for-12 for 138 yards and a trio of touchdowns on the day, while the Builder defense forced four interceptions with
Xavien Hunter, Isaih Seaborne,
Austin Powell and Adams accounting for those picks.
