NEWPORT NEWS - An 11-0 start to the second half gave a cushion that could not be overcome as the Apprentice School men's basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the USCAA, defeated Gallaudet Sunday afternoon, 80-54.
The Builders never trailed in the game, scoring the first four points and jumping out to a 23-11 lead through the first ten minutes. Apprentice led by 10 at halftime before the 11-0 run to open the second half pushed the lead to 21. The lead ballooned up to as many as 26 while the Bison could get no closer than 17 at any point in the second half.
Adrion Wall led all scorers with 21 points on the day, while
Avin Hawkins added 16 off the bench.
Karree Smith had 13 and
Clifton Goode put up 10.
The Builders are back in action on Saturday when they open the MLK Classic at home against NSAC opponent Central International. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
