NELSONVILLE, Ohio - The Apprentice School football team came back from 13 down to win their first road game of the year in a 21-20 showdown against Hocking Saturday afternoon.
The Builders scored on the opening drive of the game as
Eduardo Rios found
Alkendric Overton for a 24-yard pitch and catch to take an early 7-0 lead. The Hawks responded, scoring the next 20 points, including getting a touchdown on the first play of the second half to take a 20-7 lead.
Apprentice never gave up, driving the ball down the field late in the third quarter and scoring early in the fourth as
Marty Braxton punched it in from seven yards out to cut the lead to six. The Builders took the lead as
Jasiah Beacham sprinted past his defender and caught a 41-yard pass midway through the final period to take a 21-20 lead.
From there, the Builder defense stood up, stopping the Hawks on each and every drive, including getting a fumble that was caused by
Jyshawn Jackson as well as stopping the Hawks on the goal line to preserve the one-point advantage.
T.K. Petty had six catches for 142 yards to lead the offense, while the Builders ran for 159 yards. Defensively, Apprentice was led by
Benny Nena's 10 tackles. The defense also forced three fumbles and an interception.
The football game originally scheduled for Georgia Warhawks has been canceled after the Warhawks informed Apprentice they would not be traveling to the game within 30 days of the originally scheduled game. Due to the late cancellation, the game will be considered a forfeit and a Builder win.
The Builders will next take the field on Saturday, November 16, for Senior Day against Monroe. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the senior day festivities to take place prior to the game.
