VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Apprentice School baseball team saw a five-run lead disappear in the bottom of the ninth, but in the first extra inning, the Builders found a way to take down Bryant & Stratton, 10-9, Wednesday afternoon.
The Builders got on the board in the top of the first on a
Riggs Ellis RBI double down the line in right, but the Bobcats answered, scoring two in the bottom half and two more through the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Apprentice loaded the bases up in the fifth, setting up
Hunter Johnson for a bases clearing double to tie the game back up at 4-4.
Neither team broke through again until the eighth when the Builders put up four runs, two off a
Matt Phoebus RBI single and two on a
Nolan Edwards RBI double. AS extended the lead by another run in the ninth on a bases loaded RBI groundout from
Jeremy Harmon to take a 9-4 lead before the Bobcats found five runs in the ninth to force extra innings.
In the 10th, Ellis found a way to get a RBI single on a fly ball to left that plated Edwards, setting up
Aiden Henry to shut the door in the bottom half and give the Builders the win.
Edwards and Ellis were each 3-for-6 at the plate to lead the way.
The Builders will be back in action Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium as they open a four-game set with Bucks County Community College with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
