NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School men's basketball team captured its fifth straight win in an 88-74 win over Camp to kick off the MLK Classic Friday night.
After a defensive first half saw the Builders lead 31-24 at intermission, both teams exploded for a combined 107 second half points. Apprentice stretched the lead to as many as 25 points in the second half before the Hurricanes clawed back to a 14 point deficit by the final horn.
Adrion Wall finished the night with a game high 20 points.
Jahlil Hope ended in double figures for a second straight night with 13 points, while
Kelby Saunders, Jr., and
Chris Hinmon each had 10 points. Saunders was one rebound shy of a double-double.
The Builders will take the floor on Sunday as they play host to Central Penn to wrap up the MLK Classic at 2 p.m.
