MONACA, Pa. - The Apprentice School women's basketball team wrapped up its opening weekend of the 2025-26 season Sunday as they earned a 1-1 record through the PSU Beaver Tipoff. The Builders fell Saturday night to the host Nittany Lions before running away from Berkeley Sunday morning.
In the opener, the Builders fell behind early, 19-5, before getting the offense going in an attempt to keep pace with Beaver. Trailing 52-32 at halftime, Apprentice clawed back into the game to make it 67-56 at the end of the third quarter, but the Nittany Lions never let the Builders get closer than eight points on the way to a 94-72 final score.
Ronnice Berry led all scorers with 25 points off the bench, while
Cornasia Lamberson and
Jayla Stratton each added 10.
In Sunday's matchup against Berkeley, Apprentice clamped down defensively, allowing just 12 first half points on the way to a 38-12 halftime advantage. Despite the Knights outscoring Apprentice by four in the third quarter, the defense stayed locked in and clinched
Ieshia Small Gainey's first head coaching win by a final of 60-35.
Again, Berry led all scorers, this time tallying 29 points on 10-of-25 shooting. She also pulled down 13 boards for her first collegiate double-double.
Dajanelle Linton-Robinson also finished in double figures, adding 10 points to the ledger.
The Builders will open up their home schedule on Wednesday as they play host to Patrick & Henry. Tipoff of Alumni Day action is set for 5 p.m.
