MONACA, Pa. - After falling in their opener to the defending USCAA Division II national champions, The Apprentice School men's basketball team got their first win of the 2025-26 campaign with a win over Berkeley Sunday afternoon.
In the first game of the PSU Beaver Tipoff Saturday, the Builders matched up with Miami-Hamilton in a game between the two defending national champions in the USCAA. The Harriers took advantage of Builder miscues to jump out to a 35-18 halftime advantage. Apprentice clawed back to make it a 54-45 game with 4:24 to go, but could get no closer in a 62-50 loss.
Four Builders finished in double figures with
Devon Brown leading the way with 12 points.
Shamon Rosser,
Alex Ethridge and
Jahlil Hope all added 10 each.
In Sunday's tournament finale, the Builders squared off with Berkeley in a rematch of last year's USCAA semifinal, this time in a game that saw neither team lead by more than 12 points at any given point. Leading by three at halftime, Apprentice extended their lead to 12 with just over 12 minutes to play, but the Knights fought back to tie the game up at 72-72 with just under five minutes to go.
After going back-and-forth some more, the score was 81-81 when Apprentice reeled off five of the next seven points to get just enough margin to get the 88-86 win.
Hope led all scorers with 27 points, while Brown put up 16 with 15 rebounds for a double-double.
Jabari Brackett had 15 points, while Rosser contributed 11.
The Builders will be on the road Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
