NEWPORT NEWS - Virginia Peninsula CC shot lights out in the first half and maintained their lead to take down The Apprentice School men's basketball team Wednesday night, 88-72.
After a back and forth first few possessions, the Gators rarely missed from the floor in the first half, shooting at a 62 percent clip to score 57 points, their most in a single half this season. The Gators stretched their lead to as many as 31 midway through the second half before Apprentice started clawing back, trimming the lead by half before the final horn.
Jahlil Hope led the Builders with 15 points, while
Devon Brown had another double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Shamon Rosser had 12 points.
For the Gators, they were led by Jayden Sepulveda's 18 points off the bench, while four other Gators finished with double figures, two of which recorded double-doubles.
The Builders will look to snap their two-game losing skid Saturday in the Great Ships Classic against Berkeley at 6 p.m.
