DUBOIS, Pa. - The No. 3 Apprentice School baseball team saw their season come to a close Wednesday in an 8-7 loss to MACU at the USCAA Small College World Series.
The Builders finish the season at 26-18, marking the seventh straight season with a winning record.
Apprentice got things started in the first with a
Caleb Russell RBI single before
Hunter Johnson and Russell each batted home runners on ground balls in the third to push the lead out to 3-0. That's when the Mustang bats got going. MACU scored seven runs in the fifth, hitting three homers in the frame to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Builders tried their best to come back, scratching a run across in the fifth on a
Jeremy Harmon RBI single and, after a MACU run in the sixth, a Cam Weston double and another Russell single cut the lead to 8-7. Unfortunately, the Builders couldn't muster a final inning run, eliminating them from the tournament.
Russell and Weston each went 3-for-4 in the game. Johnson ended the season on an eight-game hitting streak, while Russell reached base in each of the final 12 games of the season.
