Women's Basketball Takes Down SC Central in MLK Classic Split

NEWPORT NEWS - After a tough loss to Denmark Tech to open the MLK Classic, The Apprentice School women's basketball team bounced back with a win over South Carolina Central Christian to remain unbeaten in New South Athletic Conference action.

The Builders fell Friday to Denmark Tech in a tight 72-68 contest. The Panthers and Apprentice went back and forth the entire night with neither team leading by more than seven points at any point. Leading by two at the end of three quarters, Apprentice went through a dry spell in the fourth, allowing Denmark Tech to win the period by six and take the four point win.

Ronnice Berry and Joy Wright each recorded double-doubles with Berry getting 26 points and 12 rebounds while Wright had 19 and 15.

Saturday, the Builders bounced back and took down SC Central with a final score of 49-33. Apprentice built a lead in the second quarter and held firm the rest of the way. Ronnice Berry led the Builders with 21 points, shooting 8-for-18 from the field and hitting four three pointers. Shilah-Rayn Lord added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Joy Wright chipped in nine points off the bench to help maintain the advantage.

The Builders have nearly a week off before their next game on the road at Christendom on Saturday. Tip time is 12:30 p.m.
