NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School men's basketball team opened 2026 with a massive 121-65 win over Central International Tuesday night.
The Builders fell behind early, 9-4, but used a 21-2 run over the next 4:04 of play to gain control of the game. The first half ended with an exclamation mark as
Wayne Hedgepeth hit a half court heave at the buzzer for Apprentice to take a 58-31 lead into intermission.
From there, the Builders continued to build on their lead, scoring 63 points in the second half on the way to the 56-point victory.
Monte Rudolph didn't miss from the floor, going 7-of-7, including five three-pointers, to finish with 19 points.
Shamon Rosser led the Builders with 20 points, while
Jahlil Hope added 16.
Devon Brown contributed 15 points, and
Khamari Faulks had 12.
Every Builder finished in the scoring column, including
Donovan Means, who returned for his first game of the season tonight. He added eight points with seven assists.
Joel Maxey had 13 rebounds on the day to go with seven points.
The Builders will take the floor at home on Sunday for a 4 p.m. tipoff against Cheyney.
