Eastman’s Late Field Goal Lifts Builders Past Thaddeus Stevens, 16-15

LANCASTER, Pa. – Logan Eastman kicked a 32-yard field goal with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter, and The Apprentice School Builders football team held on for a 16-15 road win over Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. The victory evens the Builders' record at 3-3.

Eastman was perfect on the day, connecting on all three of his field goal attempts and adding the extra point after the Builders' lone touchdown. His kickoffs also kept Thaddeus Stevens pinned back, as he averaged 62.8 yards per kick with a pir of touchbacks.

The Builders defense turned the game around in the second quarter. Trailing 6-3, the Builders got a big play from Breiden Lowery, who intercepted a Bulldog pass and returned the ball 10 yards to the Thaddeus Stevens 33. On the very next snap, quarterback Patrick Chewning connected with Isaiah Townsend for a 33-yard touchdown, a score that took just eight seconds of game clock and gave the Builders a 10-6 lead. Amare Boone added a second interception on Thaddeus Stevens' next possession.

Thaddeus Stevens answered with a field goal just before halftime and a 45-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, but the Builders defense refused to break. Apprentice School blocked both Thaddeus Stevens extra-point attempts, with Leslie Hines and Emmanuel Patterson each getting a hand on a kick. Those two stops proved to be the difference in the one-point game.

After Eastman's 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 15-13, the Builders offense went back to work. Chewning hit Malachi Madden for a 28-yard gain to set up Eastman's go-ahead kick from 32 yards. Then, with less than two minutes remaining, Patterson sacked the Bulldogs quarterback and recovered the fumble at the Thaddeus Stevens 19-yard line. The Builders ran the clock down to zero from there, sealing the win.

Chewning completed 9 of 16 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Tali Burgess led the ground game with 47 yards on 11 carries, and Alvin Hicks added 35 yards on eight attempts. Kyle Musselman paced the receivers with three catches. The Builders were efficient in scoring territory, converting three of four red-zone trips into points.

Defensively, the Builders recorded three sacks and held Thaddeus Stevens to 101 net rushing yards. Hines led the team with 11 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and a blocked kick. Brandon Church added nine tackles, while Lowery and Patterson each finished with six. Austin Moore tallied two tackles for loss, and Selvin Claros, Jamiyah Mandel and Colton Jones joined Patterson in recording sacks. Baker Green also gave the Builders a lift on special teams, returning three punts for 49 yards. The Builders played a disciplined game, committing just four penalties for 40 yards.
