Builders Defense Dominates, Eastman’s Fourth-Quarter Field Goal Lifts Apprentice Past Keystone, 10-7

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Apprentice School football team came from behind and used a dominant defensive effort to beat Keystone College 10-7 on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Turf Field and Track Complex.

Logan Eastman kicked the go-ahead field goal, a 49-yard boot, with 3:02 left in the fourth quarter. The 49-yarder is both a personal best for Eastman and ties the school record that was previously held by Jeremiah Morgan against Sussex County CC, on Nov. 11, 2022. Eastman's previous best was a 45-yarder against Lighthouse Christian College on Oct. 11, 2025.

On the ensuing Keystone possession, the Builders defense forced a three-and-out, securing the team's fourth win of the season.

Keystone scored on its second drive of the game, a 19-yard touchdown pass from Trevin Arnold to Quinten Barclay. After that, the Builders defense stepped up and held the Giants scoreless the remainder of the game. Apprentice finished with four sacks and held Keystone to 38 net rushing yards, while the Builders gained 135 net yards on the ground.

Apprentice answered Keystone's opening score with a 13-play, 71-yard drive that took 7:48. Quarterback Patrick Chewning capped it with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Eastman's extra point tied the game at 7-7 with 2:20 left in the first quarter.

Running back Tali Burgess carried 20 times for 90 yards, and Alvin Hicks added 45 yards on eight carries, including a 15-yard run on the touchdown drive. Ryan McLister led the Builders receivers with two catches for 26 yards, and Burgess, Malachi Madden, Baker Green and Hicks added pass receptions.

The game-winning drive began at the Apprentice 42-yard line after linebacker Emmanuel Patterson's fumble recovery. The Builders worked through nine plays for 26 yards and 6:05 of clock. Chewning's 12-yard completion to McLister and 16-yard connection with Burgess moved Apprentice into field goal range, and Eastman converted to make it 10-7.

The defense then took over. Carter Sullivan sacked the Keystone quarterback on third down, and Keystone punted. Apprentice took possession at the Keystone 39-yard line with 53 seconds remaining. Burgess picked up 9 yards, and the Builders ran out the clock to seal the win.

Patterson led the Builders defense with eight tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Jabari Anderson and Sullivan each added a sack, and Anderson also forced a fumble that Patterson recovered. Breiden Lowery contributed seven tackles and a fumble recovery, Leslie Hines had six tackles, and Colton Jones had five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Special teams made a key play in the third quarter when Green blocked a Keystone punt and recovered it at the Keystone 16-yard line.

The Builders controlled the clock, holding the ball for 34:36 to Keystone's 25:24. Apprentice outgained Keystone 202 yards to 179 and recorded 13 first downs on the afternoon.

The Builders return to action Oct. 24, when they travel to South Carolina Central Christian College to face the Gladiators at 1 p.m.
