HAMPTON - For the second time in as many twinbills,
Jaeden Anderson played hero as he walked off game one again, this time against Southern Virginia, as The Apprentice School baseball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a sweep of the Knights Saturday.
GAME 1 - AS 3, SVU 2 (9 inn.)
The Knights struck first in the top of the second inning on a RBI single, but Apprentice answered right back, stringing together hits to set up
Isaac McCallister to get a RBI single and plate
Jett Winslow to tie the game.
Baker Green then stepped in and singled as well to push Anderson across home plate to take a 2-1 lead.
The score remained there until the sixth with SVU got a leadoff homer from Mason Jones to tie the game up at 2-2, where it would remain until Anderson led off the ninth with his solo bomb.
Grant Stratton (1-0) got the win in relief, going five innings and allowing just two hits.
Brayden Hayes went the first four, fanning seven Knights.
GAME 2 - AS 3, SVU 2
The Builders got all three of their runs in the first two innings of the second game, scoring two in the first by sending eight batters to the plate.
Landon Turner pushed the first run across on a RBI single to score
Seth Harrison, and McCallister followed that up with another RBI single, scoring Winslow again.
Harrison came up again in the second inning and pushed
Nate Yeary across with a RBI single to push the lead to 3-0. SVU had a RBI single in both the third and fourth innings, but that was all they could get against
Nick Redman (2-0), who struck out six in his six innings of action on the bump.
Charley Higginbotham got his first save of the year, facing four batters in the seventh to close the door.
The Builders will hit the road on Wednesday for a twinbill at MACU. First pitch is set for 12 noon.
