LEXINGTON, VA. -- Sophomore Daniel Hare's pin with 46 seconds
left in the 184-pound match gave the Apprentice School a 22-21
victory over Washington & Lee University in a dual match on
Wednesday night in Lexington.
In their other match on Wednesday night, the Builders defeated
National Collegiate Wrestling Association rival Southern Virginia
42-20.
Against the host Generals, the match started at 197 pounds and
the Builders opened with freshman Quentin Bowling recording his
fourth win by pin this year defeating Zak Colangelo in 4:48 for a
6-0 lead. After four losses by decision put the Generals ahead
12-6, senior Ty Holley earned the first bonus point victory with a
major decision over JP Welch 11-2 to cut the deficit to 12-10 after
141 pounds.
Freshman Ricky Anderson recorded his 13th victory by
pin this year with a fall in 2:09 over Keith Jaworski at 149 to
give the Builders a 16-12 lead. From there the host scored
three straight victories by decision to hold a 21-16 lead heading
into the deciding 184 pound match.
Hare earned his seventh win by fall with his win over Richard
Knack in 6:14 to give the Builders their tenth victory
Against Southern Virginia, the Builders fell behind 9-0 after
the first two matches, but recorded falls from Will Sexton at 141
and Anderson again to take a 12-9 lead after 149. The Knights
earned a pin at 157 and a tech fall win at 165 to take a 20-12 lead
before the Builders won the final four bouts by forfeit.
Next up for the Builders will be the Ed South Tournament in
Jefferson City, Tennessee at Carson-Newman College on Saturday.
