Box Score DOVER, DEL. -- The third-ranked Wesley Wolverines scored on six
straight possessions during the second and early third quarters on
Saturday as they defeated Apprentice School 64-7 in an Atlantic
Central Football Conference matchup at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
Wesley wasted no time in scoring as Jeff Morgan scored on a
two-yard touchdown 59 seconds into the game. Quarterback
Justin Sottilare started the game connecting with Ellis Krout on a
53-yard pass to bring the Wolverines down to the Builder 12.
After a pass interference penalty, Morgan scored on a run up the
middle.
On the Builder first possession, a quick slant pass from Trey
Tillman to Bryan Shahlamian put the Builders at the 40 yard
line. Wesley defense held and forced a punt that was blocked
by Keith Ford and recovered at the one yard line. The next
play saw Sean Scanlon ran in from the one to put the Wolverines up
14-0 with 13:29 left in the first quarter.
The ensuing kickoff was fumbled and the Wolverines recovered at
the Builder 31. Brandon Wright scampered in from the nine to
finish the three-play scoring drive with 12:18 remaining for a 21-0
advantage.
Izhia Roundtree returned the kickoff 36 yards to the Wesley 49
putting the Builders inside Wesley for the first time. Wesley
held the Builders but muffed the ensuing punt putting the Builders
at the Wesley 26 before a 43-yard field goal attempt was
blocked.
After forcing a Wesley punt, the Builders earned their initial
first down on a 12-yard slant pass from Tillman to Al Little at the
Builder 48 before holding the Builders forcing a punt.
The Builders forced a turnover as a Sottilare pass bounced off
the receiver into the hands of Daniel Richmond giving the Builders
possession at their 29. Two plays later Tillman fumbled by a
Jeff Morgan sack into the hands of Chris Mayes who ran it 23 yards
for the touchdown with 1:24 left in the first quarter for a 28-0
lead.
Tillman's pass was intercepted by Marcus Wilson and
returned 36 yards for a touchdown to close the first quarter with a
35-0 Wesley advantage.
Starting the second quarter Shahlamian broke off a 22 yard run
for the longest Builder run of the game. Wesley then went on
a 94-yard drive finishing with a 66-yard scoring pass from
Sottilare to DeAndre Fowlkes for a 42-0 advantage with 8:16 left in
the half. Following a 44-yard completion, Wesley scored again
as Cummings connected with Leonard Stephenson on a 10-yard scoring
pass with 5:29 left for a 49-0 advantage. Dan Tryon closed
out the first half scoring with a 37-yard field goal with 45
seconds left for a 52-0 halftime advantage.
A Dan Tryon 45-yard field goal closed out the scoring in the
third quarter as he set a school record for longest field goal for
a 62-0 advantage after three quarters.
The Builders cracked the scoreboard with 1:52 left as Shahlamian
spearheaded a 40-yard scoring drive after recovering a fumble at
the Wesley 40. Shahlamian connected with Al Little on a
five-yard scoring pass for the 64-7 final.
