ALFRED, NY – Johnathan Jones returned a fumble 30 yards for the lone touchdown for the Apprentice School on Saturday as they lost 22-7 to Alfred State College at Pioneer Stadium.

After each team had a possession, the Builders cracked the scoreboard first as James Lee sacked Cody Scepaniak and forced a fumble recovered by Jones who scampered 30 yards for the first touchdown.  Nick Foor's extra-point attempt put the Builders ahead 7-0 with 3:29 left in the first quarter.

Alfred State rode the strength of a 51-yard kickoff return from Josh Griffin to give them possession at the Builders' 35 for its next drive.  Seven plays later, Scepaniak bounced in from the eight-yard line to tie the game 7-all with 14:03 left in the half.

The hosts took a 14-7 lead on the opening kickoff of the second half as Sir Aaron Taylor returned it 86 yards for the advantage.  Special teams played a role in the next Pioneer score as punter Colter Johnson pinned the Builders inside their one-yard line on a 77-yard punt.  The next play, TaMichael Fedd was tackled in the end zone for a safety to put Alfred State up 16-7.

Apprentice School held the Pioneers on their ensuing possession, but a Bryan Shahlamian pass was picked off by Markes Pullium and returned it 35 yards for the final touchdown in the 22-7 Alfred State win.

Both teams had trouble running the ball on Saturday as the Builders ran for 21 yards on 30 carries, while the Pioneers amassed 17 yards on 38 carries.  The hosts total was boosted by a 56 yard fake punt in the final possession of the game.  Apprentice School outgained the Pioneers 229-134 in total offense.

The Builders will return to action on Saturday, September 11 in Washington, DC against Catholic University at 1 pm.
