NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - In a back-and-forth affair Saturday afternoon, the Apprentice School football team fell to 2-5 on the year with a 28-21 loss at Monroe.

The Builders outgained the Mustangs by 15 yards, including outrushing them by 73 yards, but Apprentice was just 6-of-19 on third down conversions on the day.

Monroe was first to score as Mason Boothe found Jamel Stubbs for a 68-yard touchdown with 9:50 to play in the first. The Builders bounced back early in the second quarter as Ricardo Corpus found the endzone on the back end of a pass from Mason Tatum to tie things up. Three minutes later, Tatum rushed in from seven yards out to give the Builders their only lead of the day.

The Mustangs answered with 4:20 to play in the first half on another long pass from Boothe, this time to Rashawn Reid for 72 yards and a tie game at intermission. Monroe took advantage of a short field to start their second half as Boothe found Stubbs for the second time of the day and a 24-yard touchdown to take a 21-14 lead.

Tatum would answer, finding Ernest Harris after a Builder interception for 13 yards and a 21-21 ball game, but the Mustangs got the last laugh, scoring on a 5-yard pass from Boothe to Deon Metezier with 10:45 left in the game.

The Builder quarterback went 20-for-35 for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while his counterpart from Monroe went 16-for-29 for 285 and four touchdowns.

Apprentice will wrap up the season with a three-game homestand, starting with a Pink Out against Army Prep Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
