NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School men's basketball team got their home schedule started on the right foot with a 100-77 win over Mountain Gateway Community College Saturday afternoon.
After giving up a three pointer that pushed the Roadrunners in front, 3-2, the Builders went on a 25-4 run to jump out to a 27-7 lead. MGCC battled their way back into the game, cutting the lead to as few as four by the 13:32 mark in the second half, but the Builders answered to stretch the lead back out to a comfortable margin throughout the remainder of the contest.
Five Builders finished in double figures, led by
Adrion Wall's 17 points.
Karree Smith had 13 points while
Angel Pacheco-Ortiz had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Donovan Means had 11 points, and
Avin Hawkins added 10 off the bench.
Every Builder that saw action Saturday afternoon scored with
Climente Riddick's dunk with eight seconds left pushed the Builders over the century mark.
It's a quick turnaround for Apprentice as they welcome Carlow to town tomorrow at noon.
