ALFRED, N.Y. - Turnovers plagued The Apprentice School football team Saturday afternoon as they fell to Alfred State, 21-7.
The Builders threw five interceptions on the day, the first of which came on the first play of the second quarter when Silas Egenlauf had an 80-yard pick-six to put the Pioneers on the board, 7-0.
The score remained there until midway through the third quarter when Alfred State blocked a Builder punt deep in Builder territory, setting up Nicholas Cuomo to run in from eight yards out on the next play to double the lead, 14-0. Apprentice answered as they used an 11-play drive midway through the fourth to drive down the field and score on an
Eduardo Rios pass to
Ty Taylor.
Alfred State responded right away, though, as Josh Graham broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run two plays later to bring the game to its final score.
Rios finished the day 11-for-29 for 172 yards and a touchdown to go with two interceptions.
T.K. Petty led the way offensively with 150 yards receiving on eight catches.
In total, the Builders threw for 333 yards and outgained the Pioneers by 120 yards.
Apprentice will look to bounce back next week for Hall of Fame Day against Maine Maritime in Newport News.
