DUBOIS, Pa. - A five-run sixth was the difference as The Apprentice School baseball team fell in the opening round of the USCAA National Tournament Monday. The Builders will now face elimination tomorrow against Wright State Lake at 10 a.m.
The Builders scored first on a Cam Weston homer in the first inning, but Atlantis answered in the fourth to tie the game up at 1-1. Apprentice bounced right back, plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a
Jett Winslow bases loaded single that scored two and a
Riggs Ellis RBI fielder's choice that retook the lead for AS, 4-1.
After the Atlanteans tied the game at 4-4 with a three-run homer in the fifth, the Builders again pushed back in front on a Winslow sacrifice fly, plating
Nolan Edwards to retake the lead, 5-4. From there, Atlantis poured it on, scoring five runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Apprentice tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs, two on a
Hunter Johnson triple and the third on an Ellis single, but the rally ended there as Atlantis got the win.
The Builders will now face elimination the rest of their postseason run, starting with the 10 a.m. matchup against the Lakers tomorrow morning at Showers Field.
