DANVILLE, Va. - The Apprentice School wrestling team finished up 2-2 at the Cougar Duals Saturday, defeating Davis & Elkins and Ferrum in the event.
The Builders nearly had three wins on the day as a team, but ultimately fell via tiebreaker in the match against Belmont Abbey. The match started with
Lucas Vannostrand earning a technical fall at 125 before Belmont Abbey rattled off a decision, major decision and tech fall to go up 12-5 in the match.
DJ Wince got the Builders back on the scoreboard at 157 with an 11-2 major decision before
David Norris tied things up at 165 with a 5-2 decision.
Logan Eastman gave the Builders the lead with a win at 174 before the two sides traded forfeits. BAC's River Houck earned a 7-2 decision in the final match, tying the team score at 21-21, forcing a tiebreak where the Crusaders earned the win.
The Builders had a 39-12 win over Ferrum where Apprentice won three of the four matches that were wrestled while taking forfeit wins in four others.
Landon Yoder had a 7-6 win at 149, while Eastman got a fall at 165 and
Lucas Sumners got a fall as well at 174.
Apprentice also took down Davis & Elkins by a 41-14 score.
Aiden Vasquez earned a 15-0 tech fall to get things started before Norris, Eastman, Sumners and
Landon Michael all got wins via fall to score the final 30 points of the match, including a forfeit win at 197.
The Builders will next take to the mats at the Wilkes Open on December 19.
