Men's Basketball Splits Roger Taylor Invitational

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Apprentice School men's basketball team split its two contests in the Roger Taylor Invitational this weekend, coming from behind to take down Greensboro before falling to the host NC Wesleyan on Saturday.

In Friday's opener, the Builders found themselves down 14 points at halftime, 35-21, before the floodgates opened up offensively. The Builders used a 12-1 run in the middle of the second half to take the lead, and then went on to never give it up on the way to an 84-77 win.

Apprentice shot 74 percent from the floor in the second half, including 6-of-10 from behind the three point line. They also forced 15 Pride turnovers in the half as well.

Shamon Rosser led the Builders with 24 points, 20 of which came after intermission. Alex Ethridge had 15 points, while Monte Rudolph had 12 off the bench.

Saturday's matchup with the Bishops was a defensive struggle as neither team broke 30 points in the first half. NCW scored seven straight in the latter portion of the first half to take a 28-20 lead into the break.

The Bishop lead quickly got out to 23 points in the second half, but the Builders continued to battle, despite shots not falling, to hold the lead around the final spread at 66-51.

Jahlil Hope had 14 points to lead the way, while Devon Brown flirted with a double-double, scoring nine points while pulling down eight boards.

The Builders will be back on the floor Wednesday against Virginia Peninsula CC at home. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will serve as the Third Annual Toy Drive. Fans can earn free admission to Wednesday's game by bringing an unwrapped, unopened toy to the game.
