HAMPTON - The Apprentice School baseball team finished out the regular season by sending its seniors out with a 7-6 win over Virginia Peninsula CC Monday night at War Memorial Stadium.
The Builders jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Cam Weston and
Hunter Johnson each knocked RBI singles to take the early 2-0 lead. After a Gator run in the top of the second, Apprentice scored again in the second on a RBI groundout and then again in the third on a
Caleb Russell solo bomb that pushed the lead to 4-1.
VPCC didn't go quietly, tying the game up in the fifth on a three-run bomb before taking the lead in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a Builder error. Trailing 6-4, the Builders answered right after the stretch, tying the game up on a
Hunter Johnson two-run blast that curled around the right field foul pole. Apprentice then loaded up the bases and brought home the game-winning run on a RBI groundout.
Justin Bradshaw (1-1) got the win in relief, while
Charley Higginbotham went five innings in the start.
Jaeden Anderson earned his sixth save of the season.
The Builders will now head into the New South Athletic Conference Tournament starting Thursday with a 9:30 a.m. matchup against sixth-seeded Lighthouse Christian.
