BUFFALO, N.Y. - There will be a new USCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Champion this season as The Apprentice School men's basketball team's quest for a three-peat was ended in a heartbreaking loss to Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse Tuesday night, 88-85.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early advantage, getting a 10-point lead just eight minutes into the contest, but then the Builders battled back, taking the lead late in the first half before trailing by a single point headed to intermission.
From there, the game went back-and-forth for the final 20 minutes with neither team leading by more than eight points. The Builders had an 83-80 lead with just over two minutes to go, but BSC finished on an 8-2 run with the tying shot at the buzzer falling short on the final play of the game.
Jahlil Hope led the way for AS with 22 points, while
Donovan Means came off the bench to score 21 in 32 minutes of play.
Wayne Hedgepeth had 13, while
Devon Brown had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Builders will wrap up the season tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. with a consolation game against Bryant & Stratton - Buffalo.
