ETTRICK, VA. -- The Apprentice School baseball team played its
first road game of the 2008 season on Tuesday and came away with a
7-5 victory over Division II Virginia State University in Ettrick.
Junior J.D. Drewry and freshman Dory Fields were 3-for-4 apiece
while sophomores James Denny and Jonathan Dehoux had a pair of hits
in the victory. Senior Joe Tugwell earned his first victory
throwing 7.2 innings and allowing seven hits while striking
out six. Freshman Greg Tillman earned his first collegiate
save coming in with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
The Builders scored a pair in the first on a RBI single from
Dehoux and a fielders choice from Alan Riley that scored
Dehoux. Another run was scored in the second on a RBI single
from Drewry that scored Denny who had walked and stolen
second. Dehoux pushed the lead to 5-1 in the fourth with
a two-run double.
Apprentice School took the lead to 7-1 in the fifth as Kenny
Eanes' sacrifice fly scored Riley and Denny's single scored Ryan
Wagner. The Trojans scored a run in the eighth and three more
in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate before freshman
Greg Tillman induced a ground out to end the game.
The Builders return home to start a round-robin weekend as they
face Division II Indiana University-Pennsylvania on Friday in a 2
pm single game. On Saturday they'll face IUP and SUNY
Maritime at 10 am and 4 pm respectively. The next day the
teams will flip spots as the Builders will face Maritime at 10 am
and IUP at 4 pm.
