LONG ISLAND, NY -- Sophomore Valler West and senior Rahshann Lewter scored 17 points apiece as the Apprentice School ran its winning streak to seven with a 70-62 USCAA victory over Briarcliffe College on Sunday.

Apprentice School (11-9) scored 11 of the first 13 points of the game and eventually pushed the lead to 25-13 on a free throw from freshman LaTorya Grimes with 6:36 left.  The Seahawks then responded with a 10-2 run cutting that lead to 27-23 on a Leona Virgo stickback with 2:39 remaining.

In the second half, the Lady Builders pushed the lead to 68-46 with 4:22 left on a pair of Denise Hamilton free throws.  Briarcliffe closed the game on a 16-2 run to get it as close as seven before a Lewter free throw sealed the 70-62 win.

Both Lewter and West recorded double-doubles as Lewter dished out 11 assists and West had 10 rebounds.  Freshman Tamara Davis also added 10 points and seven rebounds.  The loss snapped an eight-game Briarcliffe winning streak.

Apprentice School will now travel to Takoma Park, Md. on Saturday to face USCAA opponent Columbia Union College in a 6:30 pm tipoff.
