ON THE MAT: Homestanding Ferrum College won six of the first seven bouts, all with bonus point victories, as the Panthers defeated the Apprentice School 32-21 on Friday night.
In a dual that started at 184 pounds, junior Ian Jones broke up that run with a win by fall at heavyweight in 4:46 over DeAndre Johnson to trim the early deficit to 10-6. The Panthers won the next five bouts, with two of those by fall, to take a 32-6 lead after 149 pounds.
The Builders finished with wins by Patrik Foxworth at 157 pounds (9-3 decision over Daniel Reynolds), Dan Henson at 165 pounds (fall in 3:42 over Josh Alston) and an injury default win by Phillip Porto at 174 pounds for the 32-21 final.
OF NOTE: The 19 wins marks the fourth time in the last five years the Builders have won at least 18 dual matches in a season.
NEXT UP – NCWA MAC CONFERENCE
The Builders start post-season action on March 1 when they participate in the NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference meet in Johnson City, Tennessee.
