Box Score Hampton, VA – After 12 days off, the Apprentice Baseball team was back on the field at War Memorial Stadium, as they welcomed in Castleton University for a mid-week match-up. The Builders were looking to continue the offensive output they had put together in their last game and Coach Jones was hoping that any rust the team may have had, would go away early in the game.
Logan Early got the start for Apprentice and was able to get out of the 1st inning unscathed. However, in the 2nd inning, the Castleton bats came alive allowing them to get 4 runs across the plate to take the early lead. They would then add another 2 runs in the 3rd, but after a Riggs Ellis single, Maxwell Burcham came to the plate and hit his 3rd homerun of the young season, trimming the lead to 6-2. Unfortunately, Castleton continued to have success at the plate and add another 5 runs to the scoreboard. The Builders struck again in the 8th inning with 2 more runs, but that was as close as they could get, and after the final out Apprentice would fall to Castleton by a final score of 11-4.
The Builders were led on the day by Riggs Ellis and Kyle Whitlock, who each went 3-5 from the plate. Ellis would also add an RBI to his stats. Maxwell Burcham finished the game with 2 RBI's after hitting his 3rd homerun in two games. Apprentice will put this loss behind them and return to action on Saturday when they host Penn State-Mont Alto for a doubleheader at Historic War Memorial Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
