Box Score Asheville, NC – After winning their last 2 games, the Apprentice Women's Basketball team looked to carry that momentum into Saturday's game against Warren Wilson. This would be the second time the two teams have met in a week and the Builders were hoping to add a 3rd win to the resume. However they knew they would have to get off to a fast start to have that outcome.
Brittney Jones took the opening tip and found Jordan Wilson for the quick layup giving Apprentice the early lead, 2-0. The Owls would tie the game up, but Ashawnti Williams took an offensive rebound and put it back to put the Builders back out in front. Eventually, Warren Wilson grabbed the lead, but Jordan Wilson was able help Apprentice regain the advantage, 7-6. Wilson would score again and with 4:14 remaining in the quarter to increase the lead to 3-points. The Builders would go on a 10-4 run and as the quarter came to an end, they found themselves in front by a score of 17-10.
The second quarter saw the Owls cut into the lead and a few minutes in Apprentice only had a 3-point advantage, 19-16. Midway through the quarter, Warren Wilson was able to tie the game, and then eventually get their largest lead of the game, 26-19 and as the half came to a close, the Builders would trail, 28-19.
The third quarter did not start the way Coach Hill had hoped and after 2 minutes Apprentice fell behind by 14-points, 35-21. The Builders tried to cut into the lead but were unable to get anything going on the offensive side of the court and at the 3:00 mark they would trail by a score of 45-24. The quarter eventually ended with Apprentice trailing by 24 points, 48-24.
The fourth quarter would not be friendly either as the Owls continued to have offensive success. Brittney Jones tried to provide a spark by converting a 3-point play but there was not enough time to make any run and as the buzzer sounded, the Builders fell by a final score of 74-40.
NeOndra Kelly led Apprentice with 11 points, while Nyla Jackson finished with 9 points and Ashawnti Williams added 7 points. The Builders will be back in action on Wednesday as they return home to host another EMAC opponent, Mid-Atlantic Christian in the first game of a doubleheader.
