Box Score 2 Petersburg, VA – The Apprentice Baseball team traveled to up Route 460 for a doubleheader with Virginia State University at Whaley Colbert Field. The Builders had been off for a little over a week and were anxious to get back on the field. This was the second time the two teams had met this season in a doubleheader format, as they split their last meeting.
Game 1 AS 7 VSU 5
Apprentice jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Braden Lambert drove home Maxwell Burcham, which was followed by a Kyle Whitlock RBI single, allowing Thomas Packert to score. The Trojans would tie the game at 2-2, but in the 4th inning, Whitlock, once again, hit an RBI single to give the Builders the one run lead. Virginia State would eventually capture he lead but Apprentice rallied behind Hunter Riss and Caleb Russell to get the win, 7-5.
Russell and Lambert led the Builders in Game 1 going a combined 4-6, scoring 4 runs and 2 RBI's.
Game 2 VSU 5 AS 1
Virginia State's offense set the tone early by jumping out o a 3-0 lead in their half of the 1st inning, An RBI sacrifice fly by Maxwell Burcham gave Apprentice their first run of the game, however, they were unable able to create any more scoring opportunities and would fall by a a final score of 5-1.
The Builders will be back on the road Tuesday, April 19th when they travel to Elizabeth Coty, NC to take on Mid-Atlantic Christian University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
