Box Score DuBois, PA – After fending off elimination earlier in the day, the Apprentice Baseball team faced another "do or die" situation as they faced #10 Bryant & Stratton-Albany. The Builders were hoping to continue their success at the plate and on the mound, as they had in their previous two games.
Apprentice's offense picked up where it left off in the day's earlier game as Camden Weston homered in the first inning for the early lead, 1-0. Later on in the inning, after Thomas Packert got on base, Maxwell Burcham drove him in with a double and then Riggs Ellis came to the plate and hit a two-run homerun to increase the Builders' advantage to 4-0. The Bobcats answered in the 2nd inning, with two runs of their own, but Packert hit Apprentice's second two-run homerun to, once again, go back up by four runs.
The scoring continued in the bottom of the 3rd inning, as Braden Lambert, came to the plate and hit the Builders' third homerun of the game, this time a three run shot and suddenly Apprentice found themselves leading by a score of 9-2. Bryant & Stratton would get one back in their half of the fourth inning, but Packert delivered at the plate again, this time hitting his second two-run homerun of the game and that was followed by a Connor Gregory RBI single and a Lambert RBI double, giving the Builders their first double-digit lead of the game and that is how the game would end, as Apprentice defeated the Bobcats, 13-3.
Pitchers Nate Kagey and Tyler Winegard combined for 8 hits and 5 strikeouts, while only giving up 3 runs. Offensively, Packert led the Builders going 3-3 from the plate with 3 runs, 2 homeruns and 4 RBI's. Tonight's win keeps #5 seed Apprentice alive and they will return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, May 18th) when they face #3 seed Penn State-Mont Alto, in another elimination game, at 10:00am.
