NEWPORT NEWS - Head Apprentice School men's basketball coach Evan Kee has announced the addition of five players that will be joining the roster this season. They join 13 total returners from last season's squad that went 21-8 and advanced to the USCAA Semifinals.

"Recruiting is the life-blood of college basketball and as a staff, we knew that we had some areas that we needed to improve on to put ourselves in position to win a National Championship," said Coach Kee. "This recruiting class is filled with instant-impact players, who enhance our team depth, size and outside shooting."
Junior college transfers
Montrell Jackson

Kelby Saunders Jr.

Coach Kee on Saunders
"KJ is a strong, skilled player that can play a number of positions for us. He is a physical player on the boards, can score in the post, but also has consistent range out to three. He has strong defensive instincts and is a winner, who led his high school team to a State Championship in 2021."

Eric Wood
 6'5" • F • Indian Head, Maryland. • Lackey HS/Richard Bland CC
Coach Kee on Wood
"Eric is one of the most athletic players that we've had in our program. He can play any position and is a good fit for our up-tempo style. He averaged 6.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game at the NJCAA Division I level last season."
Mahlik Munnerlyn
 6'4" • W • Louisa, Virginia. • Louisa HS/TPLS/Harford CC/Richard Bland CC
Coach Kee on Munnerlyn
"Mahlik is a versatile wing player that can play a number of positions for us. He's a very good athlete and has competed at a high level in high school and college. Mahlik has very good defensive instincts and has been commended for his work ethic by his previous coaches."
Incoming freshmen
Donovan Means
6'3" • G • Chesterfield, Virginia. • Thomas Dale HS
Coach Kee on Means
"Donovan is a high IQ combo guard that can really shoot the 3 and defend both on and off the ball. He makes others around him better by keeping the ball moving and being efficient when he puts it on the floor. He is a great fit for the way we play will compete for minutes at the guard position."
