Box Score 4 WILSON, N.C. - The Apprentice School baseball team fell in the opening game of the New South Athletic Conference, but fought all the way back to win four straight games to claim the New South Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Saturday.
After a 5-0 loss to fourth-seeded Lighthouse Christian to open the tournament Thursday, the Builders staved off elimination by walking off MACU in the Thursday night game, 3-2. Apprentice then knocked off Virginia State Friday, 11-1, setting up the rematch against the Makos on championship Saturday.
The Builders and Makos were in a shootout in the first game of the day, but AS ended up pouring on runs in the late innings to win, 19-9, to force a winner-take-all championship. The Builders kept the pressure on Lighthouse and claimed the championship in a 15-3 no doubt win.
Apprentice now waits on the USCAA Small College World Series bid show, set to take place Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. to see what their seed will be in the national tournament. The Builders are currently ranked No. 3 in the latest coaches' poll.
