Women's Wrestling Captures Conference Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Apprentice School women's wrestling team captured the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championship this weekend with all four wrestlers winning their weight classes as well.

The Builders had 55.5 points, besting host Liberty by 16 points. Clemson and High Point tied for third, while East Carolina and Virginia Tech ended up in a tie for fifth.

Kaylee Campbell claimed the conference title at 110 pounds, going 3-0 on the week. Ranked sixth in the nation, she claimed two tech falls before pinning her final opponent with just seconds to go in the third period to claim the top spot on the podium.

Janyla Anderson was the conference champ at 117 pounds. Also ranked sixth in the country, she grinded out her first match to end in a win by fall at 5:48 before two quick pins in her last two matches of the tournament.

Skylar Schaefer won the 124 pound division and was voted as the tournament's Most Outstanding Women's Wrestler. She started the tournament with a win by fall over the No. 12 ranked wrestler in the country before pinning the defending conference champion to claim the title.

Jordyn Anderson stood atop the podium at 131 pounds. After a first period pin to start the tournament, she earned a 19-4 tech fall before pinning the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the country in the first period to seal the gold medal.

All four wrestlers have qualified for the NCWA National Championships to take place in two weeks in Shreveport, Louisiana.
