ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Apprentice School women's wrestling team had a huge weekend wrestling for three days between National Duals and Freestyle Nationals, highlighted by
Jordyn Anderson becoming the program's first ever freestyle national champion.
The weekend started with National Duals. With the small number of healthy wrestlers, the Builders went in knowing the goal was not necessarily to stack dual wins, but to get mat time with the tougher competition in our division. Apprentice finished seventh overall, winning the seventh place match despite only having four wrestlers in each dual.
Skylar Schaefer successfully defended her No. 1 national ranking, taking out the No. 3, 5 and 6 wrestlers in her weight class throughout the duals tournament, going a perfect 6-0 along the way. Anderson's only loss came to the No. 1 girl at 131 pounds during duals.
Janyla Anderson went 4-2, while
Kaylee Campbell was 3-3.
Freestyle Nationals was another massive day with every athlete wrestling at least five matches.
Jordyn Anderson won her first five matches of the day before avenging her only loss of the season to become the school's first ever freestyle national champion. With her impressive weekend of wrestling, she improves to the No. 1 wrestler at 131 pounds this season.
Janyla Anderson went 4-3 in the freestyle 117 bracket, while Campbell was 3-2 at 110.
