NEWPORT NEWS - Leading up to the Hall of Fame Weekend and Induction Ceremony in September, The Apprentice School Department of Athletics will highlight each of this year's inductees of the upcoming class. Today, we put the spotlight on former men's basketball player Frank Dillard.
Dillard, who enrolled at The Apprentice School in 1981 and played basketball for the Builders, was awarded the prestigious Gold Athletic Award in 1985. The Apprentice School scoring leader during the non-3-point era with 1623 points; Dillard retired from NNS as a Nuclear Construction Planner.
His Hall of Fame career on the hardwood was highlighted by earning Most Valuable Player honors in two tournaments. During the 1982-83 season, Dillard was the leading scorer, averaging 20.1 points per game while controlling the glass, grabbing a team-best 104 rebounds.
