NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Leading up to Hall of Fame Weekend and the Induction Ceremony in September, The Apprentice School Department of Athletics is highlighting each of this year's inductees. Today, the spotlight falls on the 1967 track team, being inducted as a Team of Distinction.

The 1967 Builder track team dominated its opponents all year long, outscoring the competition 729–380. The largest margin of victory came against Old Dominion College (now University) 113-27.

That year, the team broke 11 school records. George Rhodes set four individual records: the 100-yard dash (9.7 seconds), the 220-yard dash-curve (22.0 seconds), the 220-yard dash-straight (22.3 seconds), and the 440-yard dash (50.2 seconds).

David Cooper set a new time of 10:18.2 in the 2-mile run. Roger Eitleman set new marks in the shot put (48'2") and discus (137'3.75"). Paul Saunders set a new pole vault record with a height of 13'6".

The 440-yard relay team of James Marshall, Donald Reed, Bill Mingin, and Rhodes set a new record of 44.3 seconds, while the APP. relay of Marshall, Jerry Seay, Reed, and Rhodes recorded a new time of 2:15.8. The mile relay of Marshall, Seay, Reed, and Daniel Gershowitz also set a new time of 3:31.5.
