NEWPORT NEWS - Leading up to the Hall of Fame Weekend and Induction Ceremony in September, The Apprentice School Department of Athletics will highlight each of this year's inductees of the upcoming class. Today, we put the spotlight on former baseball player Doug Green.
Green, a first baseman and designated hitter, suited up the Builders from 1991-94, was an offensive force on the diamond. Producing the second-best season on base percentage (OBP) in 1994 with a .529, he finished his career with a .450 OBP and is currently ranked ninth all-time for The Apprentice School.
During his career, Green launched 17 home runs, where he is fourth all-time, and is 7
th all-time with a .542 slugging percentage. He also ranks ninth in program history with 116 runs batted in (RBI).
Green went on to become assistant coach for the Builders for 10 seasons before joining Poquoson High School as assistant varsity coach where he won the 2008 and 2010 VHSL State Championship.
